COMPONENT REEL MATERIAL DATA SHEET

The standard Tayloreel component reel is manufactured from virgin high-impact polystyrene with a standard blue coloring agent. The exact formulations in these materials are considered proprietary by the suppliers.

Anti-static reels are available in two types; either sprayed with a staticide coating or manufactured with a special anti-static impregnated polystyrene.

For anti-static coating, we use Staticide 3000G. According to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), this product is "59% long chain fatty quarternary ammonium compound, 40% isopropyl alcohol (which evaporates after application) and 1% floral compound." Staticide coated reels are tested at Tayloreel Corporation after treatment. They must measure 1 X 1010 ohms/square or better surface resistivity to qualify for shipment. Tests performed at Tayloreel show that after six months, the degradation is no worse than 1 X 1011 ohms/square. We do know that once the reels are placed in use, the coating can wear off more quickly, due to handling, exposure to contaminants, etc. Color Code=AS

Tayloreel's anti-static impregnated reels are manufactured in natural white to avoid confusion with our standard blue reels. A special additive to the polystyrene absorbs atmospheric moisture to reduce surface resistivity. The formulation for this additive is considered proprietary by the suppliers. Tests show these reels to have a surface resistivity of less than 1 X 1012 ohms/square at 50% relative humidity. Color Code=AWT

Our BC series of conductive reels is a proprietary compound of carbon black and polystyrene. According to the MSDS, "the carbon black is completely encapsulated in thermoplastic." Tests show these reels to have a surface resistivity of 1 X 104 to 1 X 105 ohms/square. Color Code=BC

To the best of our knowledge, there are no CFC's, lead or mercury contained in any of the materials used to make our reels. We do not use any CFC's, lead or mercury in the manufacturing process.

The above items are the most commonly requested data about our reels. If any further information is required, please contact our office.
